Is Your Dog Being Protective or Aggressive?
The Dark Side of Dangerous or Soon-to-be “Red Zone Dogs”
Taken from the book, "Hidden Secrets Behind Dog Training"
Revealing the Best & Worst Ways to Train Your Dog!
Here’s where your dog’s dark secrets will come to light. Experts refer to these dogs as “Red Zone Dogs,” “Ticking Time Bombs” or “Loaded Guns.” Any way you choose to label them, these dogs are in need of the serious and immediate help of an expert. Extreme dominance and aggression tendencies usually require help from someone who has expertise in dealing with these challenges. Think of your friend’s crazy boyfriend or girlfriend. You could see all the red flags clearly, but when you tried to warn them early on, they just would not listen. Either they really couldn’t see the danger or were in denial. It’s not much different when it comes to these dogs.
Here we go.
Does your dog, or anyone else’s that you know of possess any of these warning signs?
- Your dog stops eating and starts growling or snapping at you as you get near him. He probably ac the same way when you interrupt or just walk pass him as he is chewing on a rawhide bone, a toy or any other object. You notice a tense posture with hackles up as he looks at you sideways, downward or from a crouching position. You may see him block his dish or a bone with his head in a sudden move while growling. He may eat his food very fast, as if it’s going to be his last meal. Some of these dogs even growl the entire time as they gobble down every bite of their food. Don’t be surprised if he lunges at your hand or feet trying to keep you away. Unless you want your fingers to become an appetizer, don’t try anything cute or sneaky on your own. These are all strong indicators that your dog doesn’t fully trust or respect you and may even trying to dominate you. This is definitely worth mentioning again, your dog needs to trust AND respect you!
- She growls and tries to bite you when you are restraining her, picking her up, or when you push her out of your way. How about when you move her off your bed, off the couch or even off your lap? Something as minor as bumping into your dog can set her off. Especially if you wake her up, either intentionally or accidentally. Again, if we could hear your dog’s thoughts, she would be thinking, “How dare you disturb me you idiot. Can’t you see that I was sleeping like a baby?” This can also happen to owners who let their lovely dogs sleep on the bed with them or with their kids. In a way, the dog’s gradually taking over. Just don’t forget that it is your home, your bed, your dog and your decision.
- He steals something off the floor or counter and as you chase him to try to take the object away he tries to bite your hand off. He growls at you when you have him cornered or hiding under the bed. When you finally catch him and wrestle him to the ground to get your favorite shoes or your underpants out of his jaw, he snaps at you. A dog that fully respects you will NEVER do any of this and will leave your funky underwear alone!
- He grabs the leash or even your clothes with his teeth and won’t let go. Some of these dogs keep on tugging backward in an attempt to get the leash out of your grip. You may also notice him growling to intimidate you. Folks, this is not a tug of war game and your dog knows it! Your dog is basically thinking, “No, you let go of the leash, pal! Let me jerk you around so you can see what it feels like!!!”
- Your dog bites at the air trying to scare you. You even hear the sound of those lovely teeth snap shut. The main reason a dog would snap at you like this is to challenge, or dominate you. Remember, dogs are faster than you’d think and rarely miss. They can even catch a fly in mid air. Ninety percent of the time this behavior is just a warning for you to back off, or the next time those canines will dig in your skin and do some serious damage.
- Does your dog attack the other dogs in your household? This could be the dog that demands all the toys, all the treats, and all of Mommy or Daddy’s attention. He may push your other dogs out of the way. When he gets frustrated enough, he takes matters in his own hands and can cause serious harm to the weaker or more vulnerable dog. Ironically, this usually happens when the owner shows up or is somewhere nearby. Keep in mind, these are dogs that could get along just fine all day in the backyard or even inside the house, but the minute that favorite “owner” shows up, all hell breaks loose! These types of dog fights usually occur around the owner.
- You notice her bite down on your hand and literally hang on for a few seconds. She may even growl, but she doesn’t break the skin. This is NOT a play bite! It is serious and you can feel and sense the danger. You don’t notice much pain or see any puncture wounds. But your dog is warning you, “Look, I could’ve crushed your bones or took a good chunk out of you if I really wanted to. I’ll let you go for now. But I may hurt you bad next time.” This is a dog that always stays the same and often gets worse as time goes by!
- He always barks, growls or snaps at you when you are arguing with your loved ones. Sometimes he will pace back and forth, and jump or nudge at you or at the person you are arguing with. It could be your spouse, roommate or one of your kids. In his own way, the dog is trying to get things under control on his own. It may be that your dog doesn’t even want you to hug or show each other affection. These dogs will push their way through and jump up on you, nip, and growl or bark trying to get you to keep your distance from one another. Again, this shows lack of trust and leadership on “your part.” So the dog’s trying to step in. Who’s the control-freak now?
- She lunges at you literally attempting to bite you. This is usually a premeditated attack. It’s not like most cases when you can make an excuse for your dog by saying, “Well, it wasn’t her fault because blah blah blah…” This reaction could be because you were correcting her for attacking another dog, a stranger, a child, or just because she was trying to steal something off counters.
- Some of these dogs even hold a grudge for something that happened to them a few minutes ago, and in some cases a few hours or even a few weeks ago. This grudge may result in what appears to be an unprovoked bite when you least expect it.
- He may snap at you, your loved ones or your other pets for no apparent reason. Basically, the dog just “felt like it.” In working with such dogs, sometimes there is no explanation for their behavior. These dogs are just bullies! They think they can attack whenever they feel like it. Sometimes this type of behavior could be a sign of epilepsy, psychosis, an out of balance thyroid, or some other type of medical problem—but that is rarely the case. Sorry, you might just have a wacko dog that needs serious help! This type of dog needs an expert who specializes in dealing with extremely dominant and alpha-type behavior.
I’ve Saved the Very Worst For Last!!!
- And when your dog really bites you, regardless of how much or how loud you scream, and cry out, “NO,” “NOOOOOOOO” trying to get your hand out of its jaw, not only does it keep ignoring you, but it even tugs backward shaking your poor hand like a rag doll. Some of these dogs bite down on you multiple times, really fast. Leaving lots of puncture wounds in a matter of seconds! Without a doubt, these bites will require serious medical attention and leave a scar that easily lasts months, if not years.
This one is a no-brainer. If you own such a dog, you need professional help―RIGHT NOW! It has gone far beyond the “obedience factor.” You need to hire a professional that actually deals and accepts such cases on a regular basis. I am one of them, but thank God not the only one. Unless you start with such expert immediately, these warning signs are only the beginning of your problems. Dogs with these warning signs never get better on their own. In fact, they always get worse. I am talking about “the worst-of-the-worst” here.
Look at it this way. Would any of your bad habits go away on their own? Of course not! Psycho dogs are no different!

You Can Forget About Training Your Dog.
Just Prepare to
!!! FACE THESE CONSEQUENCES !!!
- Putting up with a disobedient dog that jumps up on everyone, constantly play-bites
at your hands and feet, steals food off tables and goes crazy just because someone rang the door bell or the mailman showed up.
- A dog that listens to your commands only when you are holding a treat, yelling or have to get physical with it.
- Adding more stress in your life than you already need, due to your dog not being
fully housebroken, or due to his inappropriate marking. Not to forget a stinky house and the fear of replacing the carpet which could cost you much more than most dog training programs out there.
- A dog that comes to you only when “he” is ready and stays for however long time “he” darn feels like it. You can't call that a trained dog. Can you? Changing your walking routes the minute you see another dog. God forbid your dog sees another person walking a dog, and that's when all hell breaks loose.
- More embarrassment and looking like an idiot when your dog flat out ignores you around visitors, or just because your poor cat decides to move. Maybe because
you wanted your dog to run loose in the park without a leash. How else is he going settle down for crying out loud?
- A dog that yanks your arm out of its socket and doesn't care much about knocking you down, jumping on your visitors, knocking down your kids, begs, whines, scratches doors, and runs around like a maniac from room to room, couch-to-couch, with no sense of boundary or respect for your home or your rules.
- Being completely ignored once your dog finds herself off-leash and away from you. You notice your dog forgot everything you ever taught her and maybe went deaf.
Or you swear you became invisible. Don't believe me? Then unhook your dog's leash around other dogs, cats, kids, squirrels, visitors and your neighbors. A-ha! That’s what I thought too.
- Friends and relatives who hate dropping by because you can't seem to have ANY control over your dog or even worse, make ridiculous excuses for its unacceptable behavior. Let's not forget veterinarians who can't stand putting up with you or your unruly or psycho dog.
- Constant arguments in your household and with your neighbors, due to your dog barking nonstop inside, outside, through the fence, or even if it hears a pin drop.
- Running, screaming and being embarrassed chasing after your dog every time he manages to bolt out the door. Sometimes forget being on foot, you have to get the car.
- A dog that is extremely over-protective and snaps at other dogs, at your guests,
and in worst case scenario, even at--YOU--and your loved ones. (Note: It’s okay for your dog to be protective, but NOT over-protective!)
- The fear of never be able to fully trust your dog around kids or toddlers.
- Paying thousands of dollars due to your dog's destructive chewing, digging, destroying your plants, the sprinkler system or your fancy furniture.
- Force to pay hefty vet bills from your dog attacking innocent dogs, or worse, constantly picking fights and bullying your other dog whenever it feels like it.
- Getting sued. Which could cause you a great financial loss, losing your home insurance, and leaving you with no choice, but to find your dog another home.
Maybe even being forced to put your doggie down.
Now Answer Me This!!!
Do You REALLY Want to Live This Way???
This is not why you got a dog, was it? Isn't having a dog supposed be a loving relationship that is fun, healthy, balanced and a bond that you want to remember positively for rest of your life? Bottom line, it is your choice to end your headaches, embarrassments, arguments and the physical and mental pain you and your family goes through for putting up with an unruly dog!!
The more you put this off, the worse your dog's going to get. Trust me when I say this. Your dog's bad habits will NOT go away on its own or as it gets older. Are we humans known to become perfect citizens as we age? Some of us, yes, but sadly getting older doesn't always mean getting wiser or nicer. It's no different when it comes to our dogs.
Your dog, as smart and as cute as he/she is, cannot really think for itself and is depending on YOUR best decision here. Please make sure you make the right one.

!!! SCAM ALERT !!! BUYER BEWARE !!! CONSUMER ALERT !!!
Be on the lookout of trainers who just REFUSE to give you any references. You can bet your dog's life on it that this is a red flag.
Think about it, if they are truly proud of their training method, delivered what they promised, and have the right work ethics with their clients, then they should have no problem giving you a few names. This is even more important if they DO NOT have any classes for you to observe.
Get at least five references, three recent and two from six months to a year ago. Do not fall for
"client confidentiality bologna." Push again and say, "Look. I am not asking for their last names, addresses or social for crying out loud. I just want the very best for my dog!" Even ask for their business license number.
( Check to see where they are and AREN'T allowed to train or board dogs.) Wouldn't you want to do business with someone who is professional, legal and legit? Your wallet, your dog and your precious time is depending on it. No matter how impressive their web sites seem or how convincing they may sound on the phone, don't skip this. You won't regret it. If someone's happy with you, then they won't mind bragging about you. Don't you already do this when it comes to good movies, good books and good restaurants?
If they say, "Well. I could give you my best friend or my sister's number as a reference to trick you." Just say, you'll take it. Let's see what your own family and friends say about you first. Do you see where I'm going with this? Once you get a few references, this is where you ask what you like and didn't like about them, their trainers, and whether the dog listens off-leash, without treats, from far away. How about around other dogs, cats, kids and your guests?
