When Nice, Smart Dogs Get Downright Vicious
From the Book,
"Hidden Secrets Behind Dog Training"
Here’s where your dog’s dark secrets will come to
light. Experts refer to these dogs as
“Red Zone Dogs,” “Ticking Time Bombs”
or “Loaded Guns.” Any way you choose to label them,
they are in need of some serious professional help. Extreme dominance
and aggressive tendencies usually require help from someone who
has expertise in this field.
If you took such a dog to your local dog obedience class, he'd
thank you for bringing him to a buffet. As he is licking his mouth,
he’d be thinking, "Wow. Thanks, Mom! All-I-can-eat
people AND dogs for only $110. Best of all, it lasts 6-8 weeks.
Hopefully you'll remember what the trainer tells you and stop
feeding me two days before the class. I love those small dogs
the most. Mmmm... they make great appetizers and hopefully I'll
run into one of those wiener dogs so I can floss my front canines
with one."
10 Red Flags that You Should Worry About.
Red Flag #1:
These are the dogs that, on walks or in your home, charge at
any dog or any person they encounter. In fact, it doesn't matter
to them the dog's size, color, gender, disposition or reproductive
status. They want to take a chunk out of anything that moves.
Some go as far as barking, growling, lunging, jumping and even
biting you in the process.
This charging is far worse if it is toward dogs AND people. Ironically,
some of these dogs, once they manage to get free, may not do any
harm and are just putting on a show. But since there is a leash
law just about anywhere you go, and not all of us are into wearing
black pants or skirts, you can't let your lovely Cujo run, bark,
lunge and end up saying hi to us. In fact, by doing so, your dog
actually wins and next time it gets even harder to tame that beast.
Red Flag #2:
Every time you get close to your dog while he is eating, you
notice him tense up, stop eating and even growl. How about a curled
lip, a stomp or a crouching position? In a sudden move, you may
hear a bark and see him block his dish or bone with his head every
time you get near him. Some of these dogs keep growling as they
down every kibble of their food. And some go as far as lunging
to keep you or any other dog away from their dish bowl.
Unless you want to lose a finger, don’t try anything cute
or sneaky on your own. These are all strong indicators that your
dog doesn’t fully trust or respect you and may even be trying
to assert himself as the alpha. This is definitely worth mentioning
again. Your dog needs to trust AND respect you!
This type of dog if he steals something off the floor or counter
and you try to take it away, he will most likely snap at your
hand. Some may growl and even charge at you when you have him
cornered or if he is hiding under the bed. And when you finally
do catch him or wrestle him to the ground to get your favorite
shoe or your underpants out of his jaw, he bites and breaks the
skin. Look, a dog that fully respects you would not behave this
way and would certainly leave your funky underwear alone!
Red Flag #3:
Tries to bite you every time you restrain or try to pick him
up against his will. How about when you move her off your bed,
off the couch or even off your lap? Something as minor as bumping
into your dog can set him off to the point of biting you. May
be your dog was asleep and you intentionally or accidentally,
try to wake him and he went for the kill. Again, if we could hear
your dog’s thoughts, they would be, “How dare you
disturb me, you idiot. Can't you see that I was sleeping like
a baby?” This can also happen to owners who let their lovely
dogs sleep on the bed. In a way, the dog gradually takes over
or sees himself as your equal.
Red Flag #4:
Grabs the leash or even your clothes with his teeth and won’t
let go. How about taking it one step further by tugging backward
in an attempt to get the leash out of your grip? You may notice
him growling to intimidate you even more. Folks, this is not a
tug of war game and your dog knows it! Your dog is basically telling
you, “NO! YOU let go of the leash, pal!” Or, “Let
me jerk YOU around for a change so you see how it feels!”
Red Flag #5:
Bites at the air trying to scare you. You might hear the sound
of those lovely teeth snap shut. The only reason a dog would snap
at their owner like this is to scare, challenge, and
dominate anybody who dares to stand up to them. Don’t forget
that dogs are much faster than you think and rarely miss. After
all, they can even catch a fly in midair. So ninety percent of
the time, that snap is just a warning for you to back off, or
the next time those canines will dig in and do some serious damage.
Red Flag #6:
When he can’t win his way with you or when he is being
demanding, do you catch him pressing down on your hand with his
teeth and hanging on for a few seconds? He may even growl, but
not necessarily break the skin. This is NOT a love bite! It is
serious and you should sense the danger. You don’t necessarily
feel much pain or get any puncture wounds. It's just your dog's
telling you, “Look, I could’ve crushed your bones
or took a good chunk out of you. But I’ll let you go for
now. Next time. Grrrrrr.” Without a major dominance rehabilitation,
this type of behavior never goes away on its own. In fact, it
gets worse as time goes by!
Red Flag #7:
Tends to bark, growl, snap or pace every time you argue with
your spouse. Sometimes he will jump at you or the person you are
arguing with, or nudge at your hands and feet. It could be your
boyfriend, girlfriend, partner or even a roommate. Basically,
the dog is trying to get things under control on his own terms.
Often these dogs don’t even let you hug or show each other
any affection. They push their way through and jump, nip, growl
and bark, trying to get you to keep your distance from one another.
Again, this is a serious sign of lack of trust and leadership
in the household. So Rover's trying to wear the pants. To the
dog's eyes, all the owners must be in their swimming suits.
Red Flag #8:
Your dog graduated from those wussy bites to serious bites that
breaks the skin and leaves you with good puncture wounds. These
incidents are usually premeditated. It’s not like most cases
when you can make an excuse for your dog by saying, “Well,
it wasn’t the dog’s fault because blah, blah, blah…”
This kind of behavior could be triggered when you are giving your
dog a correction for unacceptable behavior such as: attacking
another dog, a person or even a child. It could also happen when
you stop him from stealing food off counters or when you try to
get food or an object away from him.
Red Flag #9:
If you have more than
one dog, you most likely know which is the alpha of the pack.
One way to tell is to look for a strong personality. This dog
usually attacks your other dog(s), demands all of the toys, all
the bones, and all of Mommy and Daddy’s attention. He pushes
the other dogs out of the way whenever he feels like it. And when
he gets really frustrated, he takes it a step further and causes
some serious harm to the weaker or more vulnerable dogs. Ironically,
these kinds of behavior intensifies around the owner or as soon
as the owner walks in the door.
This may surprise you, but most of the time these dogs get along
with one another just fine. In fact, they can be together all
day in the backyard or even inside the house, but the minute their
favorite “owner” shows up, all hell breaks loose!
Some of you may not like or believe what I’m going to say
here, but usually, the lovely owner is the weakest link here.
Think about it, if the owner was truly in charge, just one word,
and all the dogs would stop dead in their tracks and pee themselves.
Okay, okay, no peeing required. But you know what I mean.
Without working with an actual “aggression specialist,”
this type of behavior will not go away on its own. Some of these
dogs even hold a grudge for something that happened a few minutes,
a few hours or even a few days ago. This grudge may result in
what appears to be an unprovoked attack or a nasty dog fight.
And what's scary about this is it could happen when you least
expect it.
Some of these dogs snap at you, your loved ones
or your other pets whenever they please. Basically, the dog just
“felt like it.” In working with hundreds of these
cases, with some, I found no logical or behavioral explanation
for their behavior. They were just typical bullies. Only a very
small percentage of these dogs suffered from epilepsy, psychosis,
out of balance thyroid, poor breeding, or other types of medical
problem—but most had no rules and no effective leader in
that household.
Face it. You most likely have a wacko dog that needs
serious help! These dogs need the help of an expert who specializes
in dealing with extremely dominant and alpha-type behavior.

!!! Saving the Worst-of-the-Worst
For Last !!!
Red Flag #10:
And when your dog really bites you, regardless of how much or
how loud you scream, as you try to get your hand out of its jaw,
not only he ignores you, he even tugs backward, shaking your poor
hand like a rag doll for a few seconds. This usually happens very
fast leaving you with plenty of nasty laceration and puncture
wounds.
These are the bites that will require serious medical attention
and leave a bunch of scars that will last you years. Sadly, most
will NEVER go away.
This one is a no-brainer. Folks, if you own such a dog, you need
professional help RIGHT NOW! It has gone far beyond the “obedience
factor.” You need to hire a professional that actually deals
with and accepts aggressive cases on a regular basis. I am one
of them, but thank God I not the only one.
Unless you hire such an expert, these signs are only the beginning
of your problems. Dogs with these warning signs never get better
on their own. In fact, they always get worse. I am talking about
“the worst-of-the-worst” here.
Look at it this way. Would any of your bad habits go away on
their own? Of course not! Psycho dogs are no different!

It took ten years of hard work, intense research, and studying
thousands of cases
to write this book.
My Mission:
To Find All the Reasons Why Dogs Didn't Thrive to Their Fullest
Potential.
I was shocked to find that the "real cause" had very
little to do with the dogs' age, breed,
size, intelligence, history, or even personality, but had everything
to do with the
“human element.”
Dog owners and even dog trainers from all around the globe were
skillfully misled, influenced and even brainwashed. Sadly, all
this had a tremendous affect on their beliefs, attitude, technique,
drive, sense of hope, creativity, and of course--their level of
success.
Book's Description:
This book takes a deeper look at modern dog training and canine
psychology while it also introduces you to the next level and
the future of training and canine behavior modification—“The
Diverse Method.”
Think about it. If there are more than four hundred
different breeds of dogs in this world, how can they possibly
all respond to only one way of training? Have you ever considered
that fact? You see, every dog was bred specifically for a purpose.
So for any expert to argue that you can train EACH AND EVERY ONE
with just Positive Reinforcement or Negative Reinforcement show
their arrogance, lack of experience and diversity.
The secret is to follow a "Diverse Reinforcement"
because, just as with humans, dogs don't always respond to a strictly
positive or negative approach. Here's where it gets more interesting.
All dog trainers know this, but don't or can't teach it in their
training method.
!!! Now
Did I Get Your Attention??? !!!
Look, you are definitely NOT going to be safe, smart or successful
if you rely on just one way of training as a crutch. The key to
greatness is to arm yourself with different training techniques
that will prepare you for ANY dog, despite their age, size, strengths,
intelligence, past history or personality. Again, I am talking
about being "Diverse" because no method and no training
tool is guaranteed to work in every situation and on every dog.
That's just a fact!
This is one of those rare books that will make you smile, make
you laugh, make you think and even challenge you to push yourself
far beyond your leash or your bag of treats. It is filled with
life lessons along with my incredible journey with dogs from all
walks of life.
If you are the sensitive type, you may get a few lumps in your
throat. I've spent a decade writing this book, which inspired
me to learn something new from every dog, every owner and every
trainer I've encountered. So, in a way, the book has grown with
me.
My hope is that when you finish it, both you and your dog will
be able to communicate with one another much more effectively.

About the Author:
Kevin Salem is considered to be a prominent philosopher and one
of the brightest minds in the world of dog training. It’s
hard to paint Kevin’s image with the same brush as others,
as his unique way of "Diverse Method" and philosophy,
makes him very distinct.
Ever since he was young, Kevin has been able to relate and communicate
with dogs in a very special way. You know when you meet a natural.
We’ve all seen one. These individuals are rarely taught,
but rather born. In over two decades of working with different
breeds, he has successfully trained well over 10,000 dogs worldwide,
earning him the nickname,“The Dog Prodigy.”
He is one of those rare experts in his field who has the knowledge
and the expertise to accept challenging cases that the majority
of dog schools simply don’t want to deal with. We are referring
to “red zone dogs,” and those already given up on
by many trainers, veterinarians and even animal behaviorists.
He is proud of saving hundreds of these dogs from abandonment,
shelters, or worse, euthanasia.
Kevin gained his experience from studying and practicing different
methods of training. To expand his knowledge even further, he
also compared the strengths and weaknesses of different theories
from more than a hundred books on dog training, dog behavior,
and canine psychology.
Mr. Salem currently operates his school, Dog Secrets, where
he offers house calls not only throughout the US, but globally.
