the “maintenance” aspect

home back super clean, or a super
shiny car that has been detailed
by a professional. Most of us would
want to keep it that way.
Again, I'm sure you'd
agree that maintenance
sounds much more appealing than
doing all of your dog's training
from scratch, or re-training yourself
and the dog. So it is your dog,
your choice, your headache.
IMPORTANT:
We totally agree with the skeptics
who preach that YOU, AS THE OWNER
of the dog must be involved in your
dog's training. It's just you'll
find this process go much smoother
and far more efficient when you
come in the picture at the very
"end" of the training.

to ten-year-old adult dogs. Many
dog experts agree that no dog is
too young or too old to learn right
from wrong, and what acceptable
behavior is and what isn't. Think
of it as sending that naughty dog
or puppy to a charm school. Please

Mistakes
that Topnotch Trainers Never Ever
Make!!!
Mistake
#1: Hitting, yelling,
hanging or slamming your dog on its
back to make him listen or submit. (Hint:
You want your dog to respect you, but
NOT fear you.)
Mistake
#2: Relying heavily
on the use of treats instead of your
praise and technique. That's simply
bribery and it stops working very fast.
Don't believe me? Try getting your dog's
attention with yummy treats around other
dogs, strangers or around squirrels.
And good luck with that!
Hint:
You'll be far more effective if you
give your dog treats at the very "end"
of your training sessions and NOT before
each command. Besides, would you still
work for someone once they stopped paying
you? Then why should you expect this
from your poor dog?
Mistake
#3: Staying away from
correcting your dog by telling it--NO--when
it misbehaves. And instead, sugarcoating
it with funny terms and noises like:
Eh, Uh-Uh, or worse of all, barking
or growling at your dog to make your
point. Hmm... now who's the animal here?
Mistake
#4: Turning your back
to a dog that is jumping up or trying
to body-slam you. By doing so, all you
are teaching the dog to keep humping
your back, jumping on your guests, keep
knocking down the kids and to get your
back all dirty and scratched up. (Bottom
line, you are teaching your dog to NOT
sniff your crotch but shove that wet
and cold nose up your tush.)

say, "How's that working out for
you?"
Mistake
#5: Yelping or whimpering
like a hurt puppy to stop your dog's
play-biting and mouthing at your hands
and feet. That is mimicking a weaker
or a beta dog. Your dog would see
you as some giant animated squeak
toy. No bite simply means--NO BITE
every time!

Shhhhh... Don't Tell Anyone,
But...
Only a Dead Fish Goes with the
Flow.
So Here's What Happens When
"You" Go with the
Flow:
You put up with a disobedient
dog that jumps up on everyone,
constantly play-bites at your
hands and feet, steals food
off tables and goes crazy
just because someone rang
the door bell or the mailman
brought you some more bills.
Your dog obeys your commands
only when you pull out a treat,
pretend you are holding a
cookie or have to raise your
voice.
Adding more stress to your
life because of your dog not
being fully housebroken or
those inappropriate markings.
Not to mention a stinky house,
a wrinkly nose, and a carpet
or wooden floor that probably
needs replacing. All this
could cost you much more than
ANY dog training program out
there.
Your dog that sits fairly
well but stays for only for
a few seconds. How about going
bonkers in the car, pacing
back and forth, panting heavily
and attacking the window as
soon as he spots another dog?
Let's not leave out changing
routes on your walks the second
you run into another dog.
God forbid your dog sees another
person walking his or her
dog. And all hell breaks loose.
You suffer more embarrassment
and look clueless when your
dog flat out ignores you around
visitors, or just because
your poor cat decides to move.
Maybe you want your dog to
run loose for a while without
being leashed. That's when
she runs off or takes her
sweet time coming back to
you. I mean, how else is she
going to get rid of all that
pent-up energy?
A dog that yanks your arm
out of its socket on walks
and doesn't care much about
knocking you or your kids
down and even jumping up on
your guests. He begs, whines,
scratches doors, and runs
around like a maniac from
room to room, crotch-to-crotch,
butt to butt, with no sense
of boundaries or respect for
your home or your visitors.
But then again, who cares
because he is soooooo cute.
Yeah, tell that to your guests.
Putting up with a dog that
completely ignores you, especially
once he finds himself off-leash
and away from you. You notice
your dog forgets everything
you taught him and goes deaf
and dumb, or you swear you’ve
become invisible. Don't believe
me? Then unhook your dog's
leash around other dogs, cats,
kids, squirrels, visitors
and your neighbors. A-ha!
That’s what I thought.
Newsflash: If your dog was
truly trained, you'd never
have that doubt.
Friends and relatives who
hate dropping by because they
clearly see you have no control
over your dog or even worse,
make ridiculous excuses for
its unacceptable behavior.
Let's not forget all veterinarians
and their staff who can't
stand putting up with your
unruly psycho dog.
Constant arguments in your
household and with your neighbors
due to your dog barking nonstop
inside and outside, running
back and forth and attacking
the window or fence. Aren't
you proud that your dog can
hear a pin drop from a mile
away?
Being embarrassed that
you have to chase after your
dog, running and screaming,
every time he manages to bolt
out the door. Sometimes forget
being on foot, so you have
to get the car, the roller
blades or pull a Tony Hawk.
You have a dog that is
extremely overprotective,
snaps and lunges at other
dogs, at people and, in worst
case scenarios--even at YOU
and your loved ones. (Hint:
There is nothing wrong with
your dog being protective,
but NOT overprotective!)
The fear of never be able
to fully trust your dog around
kids or toddlers.
Paying thousands of dollars
in damages due to your dog's
destructive chewing, digging,
destroying your plants, the
sprinkler system or your lovely
furniture.
Forced to pay hefty vet
bills because your dog attacks
other dogs for no reason,
or worse, constantly bullies
and picks fights with your
other family dog whenever
he feels like it.
Possible of being sued,
which could cause you great
financial loss, risk of losing
your home insurance, and leave
you with no choice but to
find your dog another owner.
Maybe even being forced
to put your poor dog down.
Have You Ever Asked Yourself...

is it? Isn't having a dog supposed
to be a fun, healthy, a loving
relationship, that you want

forget that it is your choice

go through by putting up with
an unruly dog!
The more you
put this off, the worse your
dog's going to get. Trust me
when I say this. I do this for
a living.
Let me be very clear here: Your
dog will NOT lose its bad habits
on its own or as it gets older.
Do we humans get better with
age? With some of us, yes, but
sadly, getting older doesn't
always mean getting wiser or
nicer. It's no different when
it comes to our dogs.

smart and as cute as he or she
may be, is depending on YOUR
